Why Harbours and Horizons?
We have named our curriculum after ‘ Harbours and Horizons’ to reflect the different elements of our curriculum offer as a composite whole, but also to recognise the influence of those 11 key principles that underpin our curriculum design.
A harbour represents something that is strong, safe, deep and provides shelter and security. It is often the point at which a journey begins or ends.
Our curriculum provides harbours for our learners through being:
- Inclusive
- Focused and Appropriate
- Coherent and Connected
- Relevant
A horizon represents something visible, but in the distance; although it may include a number of unknowns, it is perhaps something to aim for, or aspire to reach, when setting off on a journey.
Our Curriculum provides horizons for our learners through being:
- Broad and balanced
- Ambitious
- Vertically integrated
- Rigorous
